Keeping Your Toddler Healthy in All Seasons
By Brandi Goodman
Every season brings challenges to your tots. Little kids tend to get sick more easily than adults, easily passing illnesses back and forth at daycare and at school. With some tips for keeping your toddler healthy in all seasons, you can better maintain their well-being.
In Winter, Keep Them Warm
Cold weather can bring a lot of problems for young ones. If you want to avoid as much of the snotty nose problems and constant sniffling, then make sure to keep your kiddos warm. Dress them in layers if they go outside to play and be sure their head, hands, and feet are properly covered to keep warmth in.
In Spring, Avoid the Outdoors on High Pollen Days
Pollination takes place most often in the spring. If your kiddos are outside on high pollen days, they may be more likely to experience symptoms of allergies if they have them. Itchy eyes, a runny nose, trouble breathing can all be signs. Check online for the pollen levels and avoid bringing your little one out if you can help it.
In Summer, Avoid the Outdoors on High Heat Days
The summer brings some high heat that can quickly result in dehydration, discomfort, and even illness. Make sure your kids are not outside during the harshest hours between late morning and early afternoon. Check online to see if the UV levels are high or not as well. If they are high, it's best to avoid being outside if you can help it. Any little kids who are playing outside should have sunscreen on their skin and plenty of water in reach to drink.
In Fall, Really Get the Sleep Routine Down
It's easy to let your child's sleep routine get away from you during the summer season. By the time fall arrives and holidays are approaching, your child's sleep routine can become even more hindered. You need to really get their sleep routine down and stick with it so your kids can be well-rested and better able to maintain their health and well-being. A lack of sleep can quickly drag down the immune system.
Of course, it isn't always possible to prevent every type of illness or allergy. Just do your best to help keep your kiddo healthy and give them extra love when they're feeling under the weather. With these tips in mind, they'll hopefully experience less sickness then usual from here on out.
