Easy Kitchen Hacks for Healthy Eating

By Genevieve Cunningham

Eating healthy can be tough. It’s not that we don’t want to eat healthy, but rather that we don’t know how. Or maybe that we don’t know where to begin. We often make it too difficult, and we give up before we ever really get in the thick of it. But what if healthy eating was easy? Luckily, it absolutely can be! If you’re just beginning the road to a healthy and well-balanced diet, take a look at these easy kitchen hacks that make the process easier than ever.

Switch Oils

Everyone uses oil in the kitchen. We use it to bake, saute, and fry. We use it to keep our baked goods from sticking. We use it often! If you want an easy way to improve your health, just make sure that you’re using the right kind of oil. While some recipes may call for a very specific kind of oil, many times it can be traded out for something else … something healthier! Try olive, sunflower, or another healthy oil, and you’re one step closer to a healthy kitchen.

Rearrange Your Cabinets

Think of your cabinets like the grocery store. If you have some sweet snacks that you’re likely to grab, put them somewhere difficult to find or grab. Put them way at the top or bottom. Don’t put them front and center like an impulse item. You might be surprised at how much different this makes your kitchen. When unhealthy food isn’t easy to find, you’re less likely to take the trouble to eat it.

Choose Healthy Snack Foods

It’s easy to buy snacks that are unhealthy. Chips, beef jerky, cheese sticks. These are the simple grab and go items. But if you’re trying to improve your diet, don’t even buy these items. Instead, stock your kitchen with easily accessible fruit -- apples, bananas, oranges -- and easily accessible veggies -- carrots, celery sticks, etc. If you can break the habit of unhealthy snacking, you’re much closer to healthy eating than you realize.

Making your kitchen healthy is a great way to make your diet healthy. Use these tips to get moving in the right direction. With a few good hacks and some diligence, you’ll be eating a healthy diet and showing off your healthy kitchen in no time at all.
