5 Things to Remember for a Healthier Life
By Genevieve Cunningham
Living a healthy life is something that every person should be striving for. We should want healthy lungs and a healthy brain and a healthy heart. We should want to maintain a healthy weight for our bodies. But the problem for most people is not desire, but rather a lack of know-how. How do you go from your current lifestyle to a healthy one? Luckily, it can actually be easy. If you want to get your life moving in a healthier direction, take a look at these five tips to remember every day.
You Are What You Eat
This saying couldn't be any more true. If you eat junk, you're not going to feel good in your body. If you eat healthy foods, you're going to feel light and efficient. If you take this saying into your everyday life, you're more likely to make good choices. If you are what you eat, would you rather be a carrot or a Twinkie? An apple or a donut? While it won't solve all of your problems, it may help you make better decisions and get pointed in the right direction.
Movement is Key
You have to move! This includes exercise as well as general activity. If you're not getting any movement, your body is going to feel heavy and stiff. It might begin to feel pain. Remember that any movement is better than none. Walk, jog, ride a bike. But get up every day and move your body.
Get More Sleep
Stop treating sleep like an option. You need it! Go to bed on time. Turn off the lights. Put your electronics away. The better your sleep, the better you're going to feel, and the better your body is going to function. When you're tempted to stay awake late into the night, just remember that a little more sleep can completely change your day as well as your health and life.
Say No Sometimes
You don't have to say yes to everything. You can tell your kid no to another activity. You can tell your work no to an extra project. You can tell your friends no to a get-together. While you should definitely participate in life, you shouldn't do it at the expense of your health. When it's needed, say no and feel good about it.
Use Your Time Off
Americans tend to waste their time off. We think that if we don't take them, it's somehow securing our position at work. But all it's really doing is exhausting our bodies and minds. If you get two weeks off every year, take them. It doesn't have to be all at once, but you need to take what's offered in order to recharge your health and your life.
Living a healthy lifestyle is so important. Use these tips to help you make small but significant changes in your life. If you put your health first, you may notice your whole life improve for a healthier, happier life from here on out.
