Sitting Down on the Job May Provide a Good Workout
By Tom Herrin
Years ago, when people went to work, they spent much of their time doing strenuous physical activity. Getting quite a bit of exercise was seldom a problem as many worked and moved enough to end the day pretty tired. In the past few years, jobs have changed significantly in how they worked and what was required of employees. Many of the hand tools of the past have been replaced by computers and other electronic devices that are used throughout the day as people perform their jobs. As a result, many people spend much of their day sitting as they work.
Strengthening the Arms May Be Simple
A little creativity can help to do some exercise that can play a big role in improving the muscles of the arms. A simple way is to sit up and grab the seat of the chair in which they are sitting and pull as if they are trying to lift it. Doing this until the muscles have contracted until they are tense can be pretty effective for the arms. Pulling for near 10 seconds and releasing can serve as a rep. Doing five or so repetitions can provide enough work to increase muscle strength.
Working the Core Can Be Easy
Many people struggle to try to improve the muscles of their core. Some of the activities can seem to be brutal and still leave people with no real results. If done right, it may be much easier than that. One way is to sit up and grab the desk in front of them. Using only their core muscles to turn themselves, swiveling from one side to another can serve as one rep. It is suggested that doing 10 to 15 reps can work the core enough to make a difference.
Identify Needs and Make a Plan
Once you decide that you will invest yourself in exercising while sitting, you will want to decide what muscles need working the most. There are plenty of exercises that can work various things. One thing is for sure, the muscles can be improved with steady work. Another benefit of this kind of workout is that it may make you a more productive employee. Those few minutes you spend exercising may make you healthier as well as give you a feel of a burst of energy to get through the day. It may be one of the best decisions you can make in regards to your health.
