If You Could Lengthen Your Life, Would You?
By Tom Herrin
There are some questions that may seem to have obvious answers before they are ever asked. Inquiring as to whether or not anyone would like to have a longer life may seem like a no-brainer, but some people who may be suffering would rather not prolong the pain. On the other hand, if we are really concerned about keeping ourselves in great shape, we may well have every reason to want to prolong life. It may sound like something that is out of reach, but we have enough information available today to actually accomplish this. We simply need to make a plan and remain committed.
Stay in Motion
Movement is a key to better health for each of us. Doing so may help us to keep our joints in better condition. It also can help to keep our circulation in good shape. Exercise does not always have to be intense but only consistent. One of the biggest mistakes people can make is to sit down and minimize their effort to move. Too many individuals retire and seem to do little to ever break a sweat.
Take Advantage of Screenings
We are fortunate today in that we have all kinds of resources available to keep us healthy. Some of this is done by identifying potential health problems and addressing them early. Several kinds of cancer screenings are available at reasonable costs. Many are covered by insurance. Blood pressure monitors are available in most pharmacies as well as for purchase to be used at home. They are simple and affordable. Several of these tests are potentially life-saving.
Even though most of us know pretty much how we should eat, we don't always make the best choices. Making a plan and following through with it is really easier than it may seem. Choosing foods that are low in fat and high in protein may be a good start. It is best if we can fine-tune our diets with our individual needs in mind. While some of us have issues with one thing, others may have health issues of another kind. Being aware of cholesterol numbers can help. Another thing most us could do better is avoid sugars. Most of us take in far too much in our everyday diets without ever intending to do so. The bottom line is, educate ourselves and take action.
