Your Feet May Be a Key to Better Health

By Tom Herrin

There are many unique things that may contribute to our health and make it better.  It can often be a good thing as it may provide us with some options that may fit our particular preferences.  At times, some of them seem a little strange, but there are usually some good reasons attached.  One of those that may even sound a bit too simple is walking barefoot.  When we were kids, most of us likely spent a good share of our time this way.  There have been some studies dealing with it, and there may be some real benefits from doing so.

Walking Barefoot May Mean Less Inflammation

In one study that was done, participants slept on something that simulated sleeping on the ground for several weeks.  This contact with the ground served as a good test.  Each of them had been suffering with pain and/or inflammation.  After sleeping in this modeled situation, their levels of cortisol were tested and found to be reduced.  Cortisol is a hormone produced by the body as somewhat of a defense, but it increases our stress as it does.  It was found that, along with the reduction of cortisol, the participants reported they had less pain and inflammation if any at all.

Walking Barefoot May Reduce Muscle Tension and Headaches

Another study found some positive effects on the body in terms of discomfort from tension and, even, migraines.  Much of the time, we are believed to take on quite a bit of radiation from some of the things we deal with each day.  It seems that "earthing," which is the contact with the ground, may result in eliminating free radicals that are known to make us ill.  This may help to prevent soreness and tension in muscles as well as relieve those painful migraines experienced by many.

Walking Barefoot Is Cheap and Simple

If we look for something different that may help us to improve our health, there is not anything much simpler than walking barefoot.  For sure, it does not have any cost.  Some of us may feel a little timid with the idea of taking off our shoes and walking barefoot outdoors, but it can feel great.  Some are of the opinion that it may boost our energy.  They may be right because I certainly feel energized when I do it.  There is something about feeling the grass under my feet that can give me a new perspective.
