Healthy Resolutions for a Beneficial New Year
By Brandi Goodman
Each January, people all over the world vow to be and do better. They make the decision to eat healthier, drink more water, become more financially stable, and more. Always make sure you're choosing healthy resolutions for a beneficial new year, but also choose achievable goals you know you can meet.
I Will Choose More Whole Foods Over Processed Items
Whole foods are healthier. This means fruits and vegetables selected from the produce section rather than getting canned or frozen versions. Nuts, seeds, fresh meat, and whole grains are also on this list. You should be trying to select more whole foods options over processed items when making your dining selections.
I Will Get Up and Move When I'm Sitting Too Long
Movement is necessary for good health. You can't sit down all day and expect to lose any weight or have your body feel good. Chances are, you'll quickly end up gaining and experiencing joint pain when your body becomes weak and stiff. Vow to get up and move more so this doesn't happen. When you notice you've been sitting for a while, get up and do some stretches at the very least. Take a break and walk to the next room and back.
I Will Stop Screen Use Before Bed
About an hour or two before you plan on heading to bed, it's imperative that you stop the screen time. Screens emit a light that can make your body feel as though it's still daytime. It can keep you up at night and prevent you from getting adequate rest. Make the decision to stop using a screen before bed and try other modes of relaxation instead. Taking a warm bath or reading a book are two options.
I Will Go Outside When I Need a Break
Time spent outdoors is crucial to our well-being. Being outside in nature can really help to ground you and help restore your clarity. It can ease your mind and help you relax. Whenever you need a break and are feeling overwhelmed, choose to go outside and calm yourself. A short walk around the block or a visit to the park can help tremendously.
A 'new you' isn't possible in the new year without you making changes and putting in the effort. It won't come easy. Vow to make healthier selections in January, and follow through with them throughout the remainder of the year. It can make your year an extremely beneficial one for your health and well-being.
