How to Prep Your Family's Health for School
By Genevieve Cunningham
It's that time of year again. School is just around the corner. While this is an exciting time for kids and parents alike, it's also a time when more germs than ever are brought into our own homes. And this means that sickness and colds run rampant. But what can we do? Is there any way to avoid the influx of germs and illness? While there's little you can do to prevent germs from entering your home, there may be a few ways to get your family ready for this time of year. If you would like to keep your family healthy, take a look at these tips to start now.
Boost the Immune System
The stronger the immune system, the easier it is to fight off germs in the body. The immune system is the body’s first and natural defense, so keeping it healthy is crucial. Make sure that your family is eating plenty of Vitamin C, as this is an antioxidant that supports the function of the immune system. You can also boost the immune system by getting enough rest, maintaining some movement, and washing your hands and face regularly.
Get Back on a Schedule
A schedule helps everyone get enough rest, and as mentioned above, rest is crucial for healthy function of the immune system. There’s a good chance that your summer was carefree and fun … and probably schedule-free. Go ahead and begin going to bed on time and waking up on time. Not only will this help keep everyone healthy, but it can also make it easier on that first day of school.
Get to the Doctor
Checkups are essential for good health, and yet for some reason, we all stop getting them after childhood. Reinstate checkups in your home. Take everyone in for a quick exam, and listen to the doctor’s advice for keeping your family well. This is a great way to treat current problems and prevent any future problems that are threatening their way into your home.
The first few weeks of school are often riddled with illness. All of those germs in one location is a recipe for sickness. But keeping your family healthy is possible. Use these tips to get your whole family moving down the right path, and skate into the school year with your health intact.
