Can Clothes Make the Man, or Woman?
By Tom Herrin
Many of those old sayings abound. Most people have heard them over and over for their entire lives. The one about clothes making the man obviously referred to an appropriate way to dress for certain occasions. This is usually thought of as a business situation or some other in which a higher level of dress is recommended. When it comes to workout attire, it seems that what is acceptable has evolved quite a bit over the last few years. Compression clothing is now filling the need in a big way. A quick look around will reveal that what may have begun as workout clothes is now everyday casual attire.
Tops Are Comfortable
For those who have tried wearing compression shirts, they may find that they can feel almost as if they did not have a shirt on at all. Except in cases in which the shirts are really snug, they may become a choice for everyday activities. Many people prefer to wear them after a workout feeling that they help reduce swelling. Once people begin to be successful in their personal fitness program, wearing compression shirts can showcase their progress.
The Socks Are High Performance
Compression socks have been in use for several years. People who have had surgery or some other similar procedure almost always wear them. The compression can help to prevent blood from pooling in areas of the body that are a greater distance from the heart. This pooling can result in dangerous clots. The pressure from the socks can help the blood to continue to help the blood flow back to the heart.
The Shorts Are Lightweight and Cool
People appear to be choosing to wear compression shorts and pants quite often. They are pretty good for exercising but also good for casual wear. They usually allow for good airflow and provide for good support for the muscles and other soft tissue. I enjoy wearing them from time to time. The only downside is the fact that they may seem a little slippery. There are times when you may feel like you can’t stay in place on slippery surfaces. This may be due to the fact that they firm up the feel of the legs without having bare skin for traction. You simply need to beware that they can’t make things disappear. Excess body fat will still be there. Squeezing something into them that does not fit may not be a pretty picture.
