Keep the Water Flowing for Good Health

By Tom Herrin

If drinking is a problem for someone, their health may suffer.  If this drinking is too much alcohol, it is pretty well known that there are bad issues that result from that.  If the drinking problem is due to lack of enough water, it is another problem.  Water is a critical part of good health.  It is one of those things that cannot substituted for.  On the other hand, drinking more water on a regular basis can do lots of good things for health.  It can make a difference in physical performance as well as many other things.

It May Affect Energy and Mental Function

Apparently the way the brain functions is somewhat dependent upon water.  When people are dehydrated, their brain is known to have a possible impairment of function.  One study of young women showed that mood and concentration were affected as well as an increase in how often they had headaches.  Other studies have shown that there may an increase in anxiety and fatigue.  The obvious key is to drink more water and do it more times throughout the day.

It May Help With Digestive Issues

While people may not realize it, water can be a really important part of digestion.  Those who have tried to eat without drinking much with it may already be aware of that.  When people drink more water with their food, it can help to add bulk and help to make the food move through their systems better.  This means more regularity.  Many who take medications and/supplements may know that those things are recommended to be taken with a full glass of water.  This may help it to be dissolved, diluted, and/or swallowed more easily.

It May Make Weight Loss Easier

There is no doubt that many of us try to diet from time to time.  When we do, it is always a good practice to increase the amount and frequency of water that we drink.  It can help people to feel less hungry as well as actually help them to feel fuller.  This may be a great way of cutting their food intake.  I try to drink a full glass of water before I go to bed and as soon as I get up in the morning.  It seems it is a good practice for those who are older since their blood tends to become thicker.  Water can help it to stay thinner.  Drink up for all of those reasons.
