3 Tips for Keeping Calories Under Control
By Genevieve Cunningham
Keeping track of calories is important. It's the balance of calories in versus calories out that helps us lose or maintain weight. But most would agree that counting every single calorie all day long isn't an appealing concept. In fact, it sounds downright dreadful to most. So is there a way to keep calories under control without making it such a chore? If you're trying to maintain a healthy diet and keep calories under control, take a look at these tips that make it far less of a task.
Eat Lots of Small Meals
Instead of eating three giant meals every day, it might be more helpful to eat smaller meals (or snacks) throughout the day. These smaller meals are often much lower in calories, and yet they keep you feeling extremely full. Just make sure that your small meals consist of healthy foods such as lean meats, fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains. Some even find this approach preferable, as eating throughout the day is satisfying and stifles boredom.
Drink More Water
Water is essential for good health. The body needs to be hydrated, and the best way to do this is by simply drinking water. Water makes you feel full, which then makes it easier to eat less -- meaning fewer calories overall. Water also nourishes your body in ways that your diet can't. It's good for the brain and digestion and your skin. It literally heals your body from the inside out. If you want to eat fewer calories and boost overall health at the same time, there's no better way to do it than drinking more water.
Set Clear Guidelines
Sometimes all we really need is boundaries. If we don't set any boundaries for ourselves, we're more likely to allow eating to get out of control. Set time limits. Maybe you don't eat any time after dinner. Maybe you allow your body to rest for a certain length through the night and morning. When you give yourself boundaries and guidelines, it's easier to follow your healthy eating plan right into better health.
Counting calories can be a frustrating ordeal. But it's imperative to know how many you consume so that you can keep your body as healthy as possible. Use these tips to keep calorie consumption under control without too much fuss, and you'll be living a healthier life in no time at all.
