Snack Foods You Should Definitely Avoid

Everyone loves a good snack. There’s something so satisfying about grabbing something quick and easy to eat. It satisfies both the tastebuds and the mind, and because of this, most of us are looking for a snack multiple times a day. The unfortunate part is that many snack foods are incredibly unhealthy. If you want to be healthy, take a look at these snack foods you should completely avoid, followed by a few healthier alternatives.

Chips

Chips are so bad for you. They’re full of calories, heavy on the salt, and provide zero in nutritional content. If at all possible, they should absolutely be avoided. So what can you have in their place? Try the low fat, low calorie option of pretzels or the higher calorie but super healthy option of nuts.

French Fries

We all love this guilty pleasure. French fries are salty and satisfying, but they are also incredibly heavy on both calories and carbohydrates. And of course, they’re fried, which takes them one step further into the unhealthy category. If you can completely avoid fries, you’ll be way better off. If you can't try the healthier alternative, sweet potato fries. You'll have to make them yourself instead of getting them at the local fast food place, but they may help take the edge off teh craving so that you don't give in.

Ice Cream

This delicious treat makes a great snack in the summer, right? Unfortunately, this is a snack that you should stop immediately. While it certainly tastes good, ice cream is high calorie, high fat, which is pretty much the worst combination for losing weight. Instead, you can reach for frozen yogurt or sherbet, two ice cream type options that are just a little healthier.

Packaged Sweets

Remember those little packaged sweets that you carried in your lunch box as a kid? Those things were awesome! But they were also very unhealthy. As an adult, you should steer clear of these high calorie, high fat, high sugar treats. Instead, reach for a piece of dark chocolate to ease the craving without ruining your whole diet.

Eating a healthy and well balanced diet is definitely tough, but it can be done. Do your best to avoid quick, unhealthy snack foods such as these. Instead, reach for fruits, veggies, and healthy alternatives. With a little diligence and some willpower, you can turn your snacking habits around to help meet your diet and health goals this year.
