Subtle Signs That You Need More Water

By Genevieve Cunningham

Water is life. This might sound like an exaggeration, but we can't actually live without water. In fact, water is so important, we need it every day, all day long, constantly refreshing our bodies and minds. The problem? Most of us would rather drink sodas and sugary coffee all day instead. But this preoccupation with flavored drinks is definitely bringing harm to our overall health and well-being. Chances are good that you're at least slightly dehydrated. But how do you know? How do you know when you should skip the soda and reach for the bottled water? If you're interested in better health and long-term wellness, take a look at these subtle signs that you need more water right now.

Headaches

Headaches can come about for a wide variety of reasons. And everyone experiences them at one point or another. You might get headaches due to stress or exhaustion or illness. But you can also get headaches due to dehydration, and this scenario is incredibly likely for most of us. If you've noticed an increase in the amount of headaches you're experiencing, assess your water consumption, and make changes from there.

Dry Skin and Lips

Depending on the time of year, dry skin and lips can feel like a natural response to the weather. In the winter, our skin and lips might feel more dry and scaly than other times. But these are usually indications that your skin and lips are lacking moisture. Increase your water consumption immediately, and you may notice a difference within the same day. It can also help to moisturize from the outside using lotion and ChapStick.

Slow Digestion

We don't like to talk about digestive habits, and for good reason. But digestion is linked to various other body systems and functions. If you're not getting enough water, you may notice your digestion slow down significantly. This can make you feel heavy and bloated and uncomfortable. Add more water to your life, and this problem should correct itself relatively quickly.

Don't ignore water! We tend to forget how important it is and opt for flavor instead. But if you're interested in health, then water is the better choice. Add more water to your normal daily life today, and you will likely notice a boost in your health in no time at all.
