4 Fun Ways to Get Your Family Healthy

Family Wellness Month in May encourages families to improve their health together. This means becoming more active, enjoying healthier foods, and finding ways to boost the overall wellness of all family members. With five fun ways to get your family healthy, everyone can enjoy participating and continue the healthy habits into the future.

Cook Together

Get everyone in the kitchen participating in the meal making process. It makes it fun and ensures the kids are working with healthy ingredients that help them to see what good nutrition looks like. Start by finding a healthy recipe that everyone would enjoy. Let the little ones mix, older ones dice up veggies, and mom or dad should be putting things in the oven or stirring on the hot stove. Once the meal is finished, enjoy it together at the table over some conversation.

Play Together Outside

Playing outside with the kids is a great way to bond with them and ensure exercise for everyone. You can all try a sport, such as soccer, basketball, or volleyball. If you don't have the equipment at home then find a park or local center that does. You can also play a simple game of catch or swing with your kids at the playground. Any activity outdoors done together is a good time.

Plant a Garden

Another great way to let the kids see the importance of nutrition is to plant a garden filled with vegetables. You can all work together to dig, rake, plant, and care for the plants once they've been established. Let the kids pick the veggies and use them when you're cooking together.

Go for a Bike Ride

A family bike ride is great for bonding and exercise. Spend time exploring your neighborhood and see if your kids can recognize any of the plants they pass by. You can also ride around a park if bikes are permitted and find fun trails to ride on. If you have young ones, you may want to add a bike seat or trailer so they can ride along as well. Take a break from riding to play at the park or simply sit on a bench and talk about how much fun the trip has been before heading home.

Make sure you're trying fun ways to get healthy so your entire family can enjoy the process. Family Wellness Month should not be the only time these things occur. Continue to enjoy your time together as a family in a healthy way so you can build lifelong habits for yourselves and your children.
