Create a Happy Space for Your Mental Health
By Brandi Goodman
Your mental health can quickly take a toll. Whether something significant occurred that left you feeling down, or the stress has taken over, your mind can become far more fragile than you might realize. Creating a happy space within your home where you can go to unwind, focus on something positive, and gain back some of your joy is important. If you don't yet have a space like this, make one. You'll be glad you did.
Include Creative Outlets
There may be days when you just want to sit in your space and not do anything. That's OK. However, channeling your anger and hurt into something creative can also help. Make sure to include creative outlets in your space so you can have the option if you desire. Something as simple as crayons and a coloring book can work wonders. There are lots of adult coloring book options available. You can also include a notebook and pencil so you can write, be it poems, basic journaling, or a story.
Aromatherapy
You can also include some aromatherapy options at your desk or within your designated area. Smelling the calming scents of lavender, rosemary, or jasmine can help to ease your mind. Lemon is a great option for helping you feel uplifted and to gain energy. Either light a candle, incense, or set an oil diffuser.
Add Something Inspirational
Sometimes you just need a little inspiration. Add something inspirational to your happy space that can help you gain some insight and perspective. An inspirational quote, for example, can be helpful. "You learn more from failure than success" is one option. "It's not whether you get knocked down. It's whether you get up" is another. Find one you like and get it printed to put up nearby.
Include Pictures From Happy Times
Put up some happy pictures in your area. Pictures of you smiling and having a good time with friends are ideal. Photos of you with your family, or just your family members themselves, also work well. It can be helpful to look at these happy moments and remember the ones you love and the happiness they bring to you.
Create your happy space any way you desire. Adding things you enjoy and that spark creativity and bliss is what matters. Whenever you're feeling low, super stressed, or just need time to yourself, sit in your happy space and keep yourself busy and engaged.
