Finding Ways to Avoid Your Allergies
By Brandi Goodman
Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month takes place in May. The month falls directly in the line of allergy season, making it an important topic to consider. If your sinuses suffer during allergy season, it's best to find ways to avoid the allergies that get triggered so you can prevent them from interfering with your daily life.
Check Online for the Air Quality
The air quality outside is monitored by weathermen and scientists daily. You can go online or look at your weather app and check the current air quality conditions. You're free to head outside without much worry when you see green on the chart. Avoid the outdoors when you see red.
Avoid the Outdoors on Windy Days
Pollen is ever-present in the spring and summer. Avoid going outdoors on especially windy days if you can. The wind will pick up pollen and pollutants and spread them around easily, making you more likely to breathe them in. It's also wise to avoid the outside during early mornings when pollen is often at its worst.
Wear Sunglasses
Your eyes are likely to be impacted by allergens outdoors. You may find them watering and itchy. Wearing sunglasses can help. It will add an extra layer of protection to your eyes and help to keep the pollen from interfering with your vision.
Wear a Mask While Cutting Grass
Cutting grass is a common problem for those with pollen allergies. You'll be spreading it around and making it easier to breathe in. Keeping your nose covered with a mask can help tremendously. You should also shower and change your clothes as soon as you're finished to get the allergens off of your body.
Get a HEPA Filter Vacuum
Not just any vacuum will do for your home when you have allergies. You should buy a vacuum with a HEPA filter that works to trap harmful particles. The high-efficiency particulate air filter can trap 99.97 percent of the microscopic particles present in the air at the time of cleaning. With the allergens trapped, they won't be able to interfere with your respiratory system.
Allergies cannot be avoided entirely, but you can keep these tips in mind to help avoid exacerbating your symptoms as much as possible. Allergy season lasts for a significant portion of the year, so knowing how to prevent an attack can help you enjoy your time as much as is feasible.
