How Chiropractic Relieves Stress
By Randi Morse
Stress is something that we can't avoid. It's something that can affect your entire body, including both your mental and physical health. Chronic stress can be a factor in a number of health issues including diabetes, disease, and depression. The nervous system is also affected by stress. The idea of living in a stress-free society is idealistic, but unfortunately pretty impossible right now. It's important to understand how stress changes your body so that you can take measures to help lower the stress level in your life.
The nervous system is extremely complicated. Have you ever seen a diagram of the human body that shows how the nervous system works? It looks a lot like a colored map of the subway lines in New York City. There are many different systems of nerves which includes the parasympathetic and the sympathetic nervous system. These systems all come together to become the autonomic, or automatic, nervous system.
Whenever your body is under stress, the sympathetic nervous system takes action. I called this part of the nervous system the "fight or flight" part. That is because this part of the brain is the area that tells your body whether you should run or whether you should fight whenever something stressful happens to you. We usually think of this area as activating only when we are in physical danger, but the sympathetic nervous system also activates when your body is under stress. That's because stress can wreak havoc on so many different systems in your body, your brain sees it as a threat. When you are under chronic stress, the sympathetic nervous system is continually working. Usually, the parasympathetic nervous system sends information to the brain that relaxes your body once the threat, or stress, has gone. When you're dealing with constant stress, the threat never ends.
Chiropractic and Stress
If you are constantly dealing with stress in your life, a visit to the chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic may be the ideal solution for you. Chiropractors can gently adjust your spine which will help the sympathetic nervous system to relax. Because the nerves run straight through your spine, gentle manipulation allows your nerves to send a message to your brain that there is no more threat.
The Joint Chiropractic has open office hours and affordable rates. They have created a business that encourages everyone, no matter how busy they are or what income level they're at, to utilize the many benefits that can be found with chiropractic care.
