3 Ways to Easily Cut Sugar From Your Daily Menu

By Genevieve Cunningham

Who doesn’t love a bit of sugar? Sugar makes life sweet, but unfortunately, it’s a bit more detrimental to our diets and our overall health. But cutting back? Now that is difficult! Once we get addicted to this sweet substance, it’s really hard to give it up. Fortunately, if you’re determined, it can certainly be done. If you’re ready to cut back on sugar and improve your health, take a look at these tips.

Learn to Like the Taste of Coffee

There are a lot of coffee lovers out there. But a huge portion of those coffee lovers pack their coffee with plenty of sugar and sweeteners. It tastes better that way, right? But if you’re willing to give it a try, cutting back on sugar in your coffee can save you quite a bit of sweetener and calories. How can you do this? You’ll have to learn to like the actual taste of coffee. Start by cutting back, ever so slightly, on the amount of sugar in your coffee. As you get used to the flavor, cut back a little more until you’re consuming a minimal amount of sugar first thing in the morning.

Cut Dessert

Just stop eating dessert. It’s rare to have a dessert that isn’t packed full of sugar. The sweet flavor is what makes it so delicious! But giving up this one treat can make a huge impact on the amount of sugar you consume each day. And it might also help you lose weight because of the calories you’ll be skipping. If you simply must have something after dinner, choose a piece of fruit or a dessert that uses zero sugar.

Drink Water

Besides adjusting your coffee, you can also significantly limit your sugar consumption simply by drinking more water. Tea, soda, juice, and energy drinks all contain massive amounts of sugar, especially the latter three. If you regularly consume these drinks, you’re getting a lot of sugar on a daily basis. Cut back on these and you’ll be much closer to your low sugar goal.

Sugar is not necessarily the enemy, but it’s not really your friend either. Cutting back can do good things for your health. Use these tips to decrease your sugar intake just a little bit every day. As you wean off, you may notice that food and drink can be just as good without excess sugar, and that your health improves quickly when sugar is less of a demand in your diet.
