Exercises That Tone Your Body Starting Now

By Genevieve Cunningham

When a lot of people talk about losing weight, they're also including making the body appear more toned. While losing pounds is definitely important for a lot of people, actually strengthening and defining the muscles is what's going to make you feel good in your own skin. But how do we do that? If we alter our diet to lose weight (which is super important), what do we do to actually keep the muscles tight? If you want to tone your muscles and stay strong, take a look at these exercises you should be doing right now.

Lunges

Lunges burn which is why a lot of people skip them altogether. But lunges also work. Whether you do standing lunges, walking lunges, backward lunges, or side lunges, you'll be working every muscle in the legs. You don't need much space -- do them in your living room, at the gym, or in your backyard. But add these to your routine to really help tone the bottom half of your body.

Squats

Another great leg toning exercise is squats. One of the best things about squats is that they're highly adaptable. Need it as low-impact as possible? Don't go down as far or try mini pulse squats. Need more of a challenge? Try adding weights. You can also do wide-legged squats, narrow squats, jump squats, or a host of others. To get started, do a quick internet search to find some variety and to get your legs burning.

Oblique Crunches

Most people know about crunches, but we don't give much thought to working the obliques -- the muscle that runs along the side of our abdominal section. When the obliques are toned and strong, it helps give us more of a waist. It helps provide both strength and shape to the midsection. Oblique crunches can be performed in a variety of ways --  standing, lying down, sitting, etc. Just do a little research to help guide you through the process and get you moving.

Plank

In order to tone your midsection as a whole, try adding a plank to your regular routine. A plank forces you to tense the entirety of the abdominal muscles -- plus quite a few other muscle groups as well. Planks can be done face down, face up, and on each side. If you need an example, the internet is full of them! Adding a plank can really help tone your abs, and it will also make you incredibly strong in one of the most important areas of your body.

Toning the muscles is extremely important. Not only does it look better, but it also makes you stronger as a whole. Use these exercises to start the toning process and pair it with a healthy diet to radically transform your body starting today.
