3 Toys That Can Help You Get Fit

By Genevieve Cunningham

For the most part, we all leave toys behind as we get older. Or perhaps our toys just get bigger and more expensive. Either way, the things that we all consider toys -- dolls and figurines and such -- don't generally make it into adulthood. But what if we're wrong in our dismissal of toys? What if toys are actually beneficial? The kid in all of us will be happy to know that toys may have a place in our lives after all! If you’re interested in improving your health and dusting off your playing ways, take a look at these toys that might help you get healthy and fit.

Hula Hoop

When is the last time you used a hula hoop? Probably a long time ago! Hula hoops require balance and precise movement of the midsection. They’ll help work the abs, the legs, and they’re a lot harder than you remember. Most adults require a few minutes of practice before they’re able to make it stay up. If you want something fun and low-impact to help you get in slightly better shape, buy a cheap hula hoop and have some fun.

Wii

It’s time to break out this old game system. While this was once the system to have, it has lost a bit of popularity over the years. But it’s actually a great way to work out. There are plenty of games -- bowling, golf, tennis, and Wii fit -- that allow you to play a fun game while also working the body. If you want something that you can do indoors and maybe with the family involved, this is the perfect choice.

A Ball

Don’t forget one of the old staples -- a ball. Whether it’s a baseball, a soccer ball, a basketball, or even a dodgeball, using a ball is a great way to get in shape. You can run with it, kick it, throw it, include the family, do it alone, use a wall, or do any number of activities with a ball. It’s easy, inexpensive, and definitely fun. If you want a classic way to work the body, buy a ball and make it easy.

Toys are for more than just kids! They’re still fun for adults, and if they’re used in the right way, they can help us get fit. Use these options to help you get in better shape, and you may find that keeping a few toys around your house is beneficial for everyone -- kids, adults, and everyone in between!
