Don't Let Summer Impact Your Joint Health

Summer is almost here and that's something to celebrate! But the heat of summer, while something to look forward to during gray and rainy spring days, can damage your joints in a variety of ways. Drink Plenty of Water

Staying hydrated in the summer is very important to your overall health, but it's especially important to the health of your joints. Your joints depend on adequate lubrication to move and work properly. If you're dehydrated, then your joints are dehydrated too!

When summer rolls around, take extra care to drink plenty of water. Also, make sure to wear adequate sunscreen since a sunburn can also work to dehydrate your body.

Keep an Eye on Weather

Barometric pressure and humidity levels can both have an impact on the health of your joints in the summer. These weather factors can trigger inflammation in your joints and trigger joint pain. Make sure to avoid being outside too much when the humidity is very high and the barometric pressure is low, such as right before a summer thunderstorm. Take advantage of indoor areas that are climate controlled for your comfort when the weather outside isn't favorable to your joints.

Support Your Joints

Summer weather means outdoor summer activities -- activities you need comfortable seating for. If you're going to an event outdoors, take a cushion, folding chair, or even a rolled-up towel to offer support and comfort to your spine when you're settling in to watch a game, go to a concert, or do just watch the kids run through the sprinklers. No matter what you do, your spine needs proper support to help it stay healthy and free from pain.
