3 Yoga Devices That Make Practice Easier
By Genevieve Cunningham
Yoga is such a great way to work out. It not only strengthens and tones the body, but it's a good way to work out the mind as well. From the inside out looking in, yoga often looks really slow-paced and even easy. But the truth is that it's incredibly difficult. It's such a challenge that many people quit after only one or two classes. If this is you, listen up! You don't have to quit, and you don't have to suffer either! All you need is the right tools to make yoga work for you. If you need a little help in your yoga practice, take a look at these three devices to add to your practice today.
Blocks
Blocks are good because you don't have to go as deeply into a stretch. If you can't touch the ground when the instructor is telling you to, a block gives you the support you need to still maintain a good stretch. You can buy blocks online, at most fitness stores, or through a gym. If you don't want to spend the money, you can also use a pillow, a stool, or even a stack of books.
Strap
A strap is so valuable in a yoga practice. There will be times when the teacher will tell you to grab your ankle or straighten your leg -- and there's no way that's happening! We've all been there. But if you have a strap, you can use it to lengthen the reach of your arms. For many, using a strap deepens the stretch to make these same moves possible in the future. Win, win! If you don't have a strap, you can also use a towel, and you'll get the same effects.
Thick Mat
Spend money on a better mat. You won't think you need it until you try it. Most people opt for the cheapest, most readily available mat that we can find. But a thicker mat offers more support, a softer surface, and keeps you from slipping. Your local store may or may not offer a thicker mat, but you can easily order one online through health stores, yoga shops, or even amazon.
Don't make yoga harder than it has to be. Equip yourself! These tools can make the process both easier and more enjoyable. And the longer you stick with it, the more benefits you'll gain and the better you'll feel every day.
