A Flu Fighting Plan That Really Works

The fall usually makes us think of pumpkins and cider and sweaters. It's a fun time of year. But for many, it also brings about images of colds and illness -- especially the flu. The flu is miserable, and if you catch it, it's a hard road to recovery. Luckily, there are things we can do to prevent catching the virus in the first place. Is it foolproof? It's not, but it's absolutely worth a shot. If you would like to make a plan for fighting the flu and staying well this fall, take a look at these steps that you need to start taking now.

Talk to Your Doctor

Some people can really benefit from the flu shot. While it might not be for everyone, there are certain groups who need it. These might include the very young, the very old, and the immunocompromised. But the only way to know if you should get it is by talking to your doctor. Schedule a well-check exam, and make a plan for staying well.

Buy Disinfectant

Now is the time to wipe down germs every day. Wash your hands frequently. Wipe down cabinets and purse straps and backpacks. Don't let germs stick around when all you really have to do is a quick cleaning session. The idea is to continually remove as many germs as possible. The more germs you remove, the less likely you are to catch the bug in the first place.

Beef Up the Immune System

The immune system is what keeps you well. Or in the case of a weak immune system, it's what keeps you sick. If you want to avoid being down and out with the flu (or anything else!), you'll need your immune system strong. You can do this by taking Vitamin C, echinacea, and even a little elderberry through the cooler months. If you can keep your immune system strong, you may be able to keep your risk of illness lower. 

The flu isn't the worst thing in the world. Most people recover and go back to work and all is well. But it's not fun, and complications definitely occur. It's a lot easier (and a lot more fun!) to take measures to avoid it in the first place. Use these tips to create a plan that works, and keep yourself healthy all season long.
