How to Escape Your Worst Habits
By Genevieve Cunningham
Breaking any kind of bad habit is hard. We get so used to doing things in a certain way. Even if we know we should stop certain habits, actually accomplishing this feat is a challenge. It's hard to find the motivation and the right course of action. But if you can find it in yourself to let bad habits go, your health will likely see a serious improvement. If you're ready to escape the addiction to your worst habits, take a look at these things you'll need to consider first to find ultimate success.
You Have to Decide
Part of changing your habits is making the decision. This is something that you have to do first -- make a decision in your mind. If your mind is still wishy-washy, you won't find success. You'll start, but you won't have what it takes to stick with it. Choose just one habit -- whichever one you think is the most important -- and decide. Once you decide, you can start making a plan that actually works.
You Need a Reason
Another thing you're going to need to keep you motivated is a reason to quit. Find yours. Maybe you want to lose weight or improve your health. Maybe you want to quit for your kids or family. Maybe you want to save money or time. The key is to find a reason that is wholly personal to you -- and something that really makes you feel motivated. When you have a reason, you're more likely to stick through the hard part of the process and see it through to the end.
You Need a Plan
Quitting a bad habit is hard, so you should definitely have a plan in mind. Don't just wing it. Try setting a date, finding an alternative to take its place, and having an emergency activity for when you're really having a hard time. The more precise your plan, the more confident you'll feel as you tackle this challenge.
It's OK to have a few bad habits, but it's OK to want to quit too! It's OK to want to improve your health. Your habits make you who you are, and improving your habits can improve the way you feel about yourself and your life. Use these tips to help you quit the worst of your habits, and your health and life may greatly improve as a result.
