Make Someone's Day - Say Thank You

By Sandy Schroeder

We live in a busy world, and we thank people all of the time as we hurry through the day, but when do we thank the people who count the most?  Thanking our spouse, co-workers, friends, neighbors or kids could be a great way to begin the New Year.

Reaching Out

Reach out with a thank you note, surprise dinner, or gift of flowers and tell them how important they are to you. Most of us have many unsung heroes who support our daily efforts for free! My son is a genius with mechanical, electrical and computer issues. He keeps my world running!

Another friend of mine is a wise critic. Whenever I have a new idea, I bounce it off of her. She listens and always gives me a thoughtful response. Plus, we catch up over a great lunch. Talking one-on-one gets me away from my computer and out of my workspace, helping me look beyond the immediate demands. That kind of stimulation can be invaluable.

You may have a spouse who helps you keep your day balanced, or kids who pitch in at home to walk the dog, run errands and take out the trash. Look around and spot those heroes and take the time to thank them. The more the family works as a team the stronger the team.

Saying Thank You

Take them out to dinner - Once-a-week thank you dinners could become a tradition at your house. Talk about the week and single out the heroes who helped make it all happen. Your kids may help fix dinner or handle clean-up, making family dinners happen. On the weekends they may help clean out the garage or clean up the yard.

Send flowers - A surprise delivery of flowers would be perfect to thank a friend for her help, or honor a spouse who shows up every day to make all of the little details come together.

Post thank you notes - Whenever your family reaches out to help you, or a co-worker gives you a hand, let them know you appreciate it.

Do some payback - You might offer to pet sit, baby sit, work overtime or help with a home project, as payback for all of the things your friends, neighbors or co-workers have done for you.

You may come up with lot of other thank you ideas that fit your world. Just look around and follow through.
