You May Improve Health with Only Toys

By Tom Herrin

Believe it or not, people can still play kids’ games and manage to improve their health.  Better than that, they can do it while playing with others who may be young or old. While getting into aggressive programs has a lot of merit, more casual activities can produce results as well.  Disc golf has become a pretty popular game as may be noted by the number of courses that seen in some communities. I didn’t even realize what they were at first. When one of my children explained to me what the chains were used for, I began to watch and see just how many people seemed to be participating in the games.  The courses actually stay busy.

It Is a Good Way to Introduce Exercise

When people realize that productive exercise can be casual instead of intense, they can gain a greater appreciation of the small things.  In disc golf, people will easily walk a mile or more as they travel the course. Some choose to intensify the game by jogging or running, but walking is fine.  There are often hills and other things that change the terrain. It has been said that a round may burn as much as 400-600 calories. That is a good place to start and a worthwhile exercise anytime.

It Is a Good Social Activity

Participating in something that can include a variety of others is always good.  Disc golf can be played by children and older adults. It is a good opportunity for a family or a group of friends.  It can also be a great casual date. It can be one of those things in which a person might fall into a pickup round with whoever else happens to be there.

It Can Develop Thinking Skills

There are several elements in disc golf that can sharpen the mind and stimulate creativity.  Negotiating some of the obstacles and angles can require applying some simple physics. There is obviously quite a bit of problem solving to do.  If you manage to be successful, which you will likely do, you will have a greater sense of accomplishment. This can always lift the spirit and encourage you go become more of a risk taker.  You really have nothing to lose with a lot to gain as you get out there and start moving.
