The Gold in a Diet May Be Fish

By Tom Herrin

When searching for that one way to fine tune a diet to get a little better results, people can spend quite a bit of time looking.  There are countless ways to make changes, many of which can be really good.  One of the simplest ways that can produce some good results with just a few changes is to eat fish.  For many years, fish has been considered good food for overall health.  People who live in places in which consumption of fish is a major part of the diet are often observed to enjoy better health.  Adding fish to a diet may improve the health of the entire family.

It May Help to Protect against Heart Disease and Stroke

There is a generally agreed notion that fish may be one of the best foods available for the heart.  It has been observed that people who eat fish as a regular part of their diet have a lower chance of heart attacks, stroke, and dying from heart disease.  A study of more than 40,000 men who ate fish at least once per week found that they had a 15 percent less risk of heart disease.

It May Protect the Brain

Many people today have some difficult problems with issues related to brain function.  Issues such as Alzheimer's has become something that can rob people of their mental functions and personality.  Eating fish regularly can help to protect the grey matter in the brain.  This helps memory, process information, and control emotions.  According to some studies, people who eat more fish seem to have more grey matter in some of the centers in the brain.

It Can Be Good to Eat

Some people really like fish while others can barely tolerate it.  Introducing some different kinds of fish to kids may help them to appreciate it more.  Contrary to what many may think, fish does not all taste the same.  It seems that most kids enjoy fish sticks.  Lots of people also like tuna, either as a sandwich spread or in a casserole.  We eat it on salads sometime.  We also like salmon almost anytime.  It can make a good, quick meal.  Try to find some kind of fish that your family can enjoy and serve it regularly.  It can improve the impact on health of your diet. It may also save vision, mental capacity, and provide some good vitamins.
