Support Your Immune System with Healthy Snacks

Flu and cold season is here and with it, even more emphasis on the importance of supporting a healthy immune system. Washing your hands constantly and keeping a distance from folks in public still a good idea, but so is supporting your immune system with the foods you eat. Here are a few snacks you should work into your diet that can help to keep your immune system going strong.

Apples and Nut Butter

Apples are good for you since they're full of antioxidants that help to keep your immune system healthy and reduce inflammation. Add in some nut butter or seed butter, such as pumpkin seed butter, and you've got a winning combination. Pumpkin seed butter in particular is full of magnesium and zinc, two minerals that help to keep your immune system supported and strong.

Hummus and Peppers

Did you know that bell peppers have enough Vitamin C to rival that of an orange? It's true! If oranges aren't your thing and you want to beef up your immune system with Vitamin C, then try having a bell pepper sliced up with a side of hummus. Hummus is high in zinc and protein, which will help you feel satisfied after your snack.

Guacamole and Radishes

Guacamole uses avocados as a base and they are full of immune-boosting vitamins such as Vitamin E. But the real star in this snack idea is the radish. These vegetables are super crunchy and a little spicy but full of antioxidants that are great for your immune system, such as Vitamin C.

Smoothies (With Nuts!)

One of the best things about smoothies is that you can put whatever you want in them to add flavor and nutrients. One thing you may not have considered throwing into your smoothie is the Brazil nut. These nuts are full of selenium, which is an important nutrient that helps to support thyroid health. Toss in some other high-antioxidant ingredients such as blueberries, and you've got a tasty and incredibly healthy smoothie in your hands.

Greek Yogurt and Honey

Greek yogurt is high in protein but also is great for your gut health -- and your gut is a major part of your immune system. If plain Greek yogurt doesn't do it for you, then add in a little Manuka honey. This type of honey comes from New Zealand and is high in antioxidants to help support your immune system.

You are what you eat, so if you want to be healthy, then you need to eat in a way that supports that!
