Natural Relief When You are Sick
By Donna Stark
There are a lot of beautiful things that are associated with the winter season, but feeling under the weather certainly isn't one of them. And while we do everything we can to avoid catching those nasty bugs that are all around us, sometimes luck isn't always on our side. So, if you find yourself stuck in bed one day with the remote in one hand and a box of tissues in the other, try to remember the following tips. These tips will help you find some relief and will get you back on your feet in no time!
Stay Hydrated
Fluids, fluids, fluids! Every doctor will tell you that the most important thing you can do when you are feeling sick is to drink plenty of liquids. But wait a minute! Don't grab just any kind of liquid. Stay away from the sodas and juices that are high in sugar. Try to drink water, hot tea, or even some broth. You want to stay hydrated but you also want to give your body the good stuff.
Rest Up
Though you may feel like you are missing out on things, it is important to slow down and give your body the rest it needs. Let everyone else manage the household chores right now because you have a more important thing to worry about ... getting better as fast as you can. Prioritize your rest and sleep so you can get back into the mix of things as soon as possible!
Breathe Better
There is nothing worse than not being able to breathe very well due to congestion, especially if you are trying to sleep throughout the day. But what can you do? Well, if you are looking for natural ways to open your sinuses, check out the suggestions below.
- Place an extra pillow under your head
- Run a humidifier in your bedroom
- Pull out your neti pot
- Try nasal breathing strips
Eat Well
Whether you have an appetite or not, it's important to fill your body with the extra nutrients it needs to heal. Not hungry? Stick to hot tea with ginger or a cup of bone broth. Nibble on some raspberries or try to eat some orange slices. And if you do have an appetite, fill up on nutrient-dense foods! This isn't the right time for sloppy chicken wings and french fries, no matter how good they may be.
Finding Relief
You may feel like junk, but don't worry! Relief is right around the corner. Just remember the tips above and take it easy! Your body is counting on you to do so!
