Home Injuries May Go Straight to the Back

By Tom Herrin

While many people may think of auto accidents as a main source of back injuries, that is not the only place they come from.  Many others probably are aware of those who receive such injuries as a result of work-related accidents.  One of the most common locations that people sustain such injuries is in the home.  Home is considered a place of safety and security for many, but it can it is also a place where people spend quite a bit of time.  Much of this time, they tend to have their guard down.  This may make it more likely that they will slip or trip and be injured.  If you have back pain as a result of an accident at home, a visit to a chiropractor may be just what it takes to have you smiling again.

Accidents and Backs Don't Always Mix

When people have a fall or some other jarring experience, the back may take the brunt of the blow.  Particularly if they have strained back muscles that may be subject to failing, such an accident can cause a joint dysfunction.  When this happens, pressure may be applied to a nerve and cause pain.  At times, this kind of pain may grow more severe with passing time until it becomes unbearable.  Delaying treatment may only allow it to become worse.

Chiropractors Are Good at Relieving Pain

When people go to a chiropractor with pain, they are expecting to receive some relief.  A chiropractor will usually do an adjustment in which they gently manipulate the spine so that the injured joint is restored to its proper position.  This may take the pressure off of the nerve and relieve the pain.  This is done without the use of pain medications so there is no risk of addiction or side effects.  Healing may be much faster, so a return to work or normal activities may happen sooner.  In some cases, the chiropractor may suggest some exercises that can help to strengthen the muscles that support the injured joint.

Regular Visits May Help Maintain Good Health
