Drink to Good Health
By Tom Herrin
Drinking something is a major necessity in life. Of course, water is the best choice for satisfying our basic needs to maintain balance in our bodies. For many of us, we prefer a little more variety, and so we try to find other beverages as well. It is pretty easy to form a habit of drinking things that may not be all that bad, but they may not be all that good either. For me, it is easy to get hooked on some kind of soft drink. If I am not careful, I may find myself drinking several per day. After doing so, I may not feel quite as satisfied as I would with water. Many of us tend to do this searching for those drinks that are just right.
Some Drinks Propose to Be Everything
We have to exercise some caution as we choose drinks that are on the market today. Many purport to be something for everyone. They may do this by having some healthy ingredients mixed with some that may be a little less desirable. Many of these energy booster drinks can be trouble. Some of them may be loaded with sugars and have more caffeine than anything around. It is wise to read the labels of these and compare them with other products. If you are not careful, you may end up taking in enough of some of these things to be harmful to your health in a short period of time.
There Are Some Great Natural Drinks
A lot of drinks today are based on some kind of fruit. This is another place in which reading labels is a good idea. Some are very natural while others use some natural flavors with a lot of other things that may not be quite so natural or healthy. Even the natural drinks may contain too much sugar for some individuals. Once you find the right ones, you may decide to make them a part of your regular diet. Many of them are high in vitamins and may be full of antioxidants. The good ones are a great alternative to carbonated drinks or some other things.
It Is Easy to Make Your Own
When I choose to improve my beverage list, I usually do so by adding some kinds of fruit to my water. Many restaurants offer options in which you can have these added to water. They can be very refreshing and offer some of the same kinds of vitamins and other benefits in the good fruit drinks. I like to add lime and strawberries to water. They give a touch of sweetness and flavor while still being quite refreshing.
