3 Secrets for the Best Holiday Health

By Genevieve Cunningham

November and December brings a lot of happiness to a lot of people. We get to see friends and family, we get time off of work, and we get to eat a ton of delicious foods and treats. What's not to love? Of course, the holidays come with some challenges as well. And perhaps one of the most common and difficult challenges is how to stay healthy through the chaos. It's not easy, but it can be done. If you would like to maintain your health through the holidays or any other busy time of year, take a look at these three secrets that can keep your body healthier than ever.

Indulge

This probably seems like exactly the wrong advice, right? But allowing yourself to indulge can take some of the stress out of the equation. Go into the season with the knowledge that you're going to eat some goodies, and forgive yourself for it in advance! Don't gorge yourself every day, but allow some treats once in a while. Factor it into your daily calorie count if you want, or just let go and enjoy this time of year. Lowering the stress and obsession with diet during the season can actually protect your health in the long run.

Protect Your Mental Wellness

One of the hardest parts of health over the holiday season is actually maintaining your mental health. Emotions and stress and relationship issues are heightened. We're all a little bit vulnerable, and if we're not careful, our mental wellness can take a serious nosedive. Make sure you're getting enough sleep, maintaining proper boundaries, saying no to things or people that stress you, and staying away from negativity. And of course, seek help if the holidays get to be too much.

Don't Stop Moving

It's tempting to put exercise on the back burner during busy times of year. We just have so much going on! But if it's at all possible, don't stop moving, even when the chaos and busy schedules are at their highest. Regular movement will help with weight management, mood stability, stress relief, and so much more. Even if it's just a walk or a quick at-home workout, stay moving to protect your health through one of the busiest and most stressful time of year.

The holidays can certainly be fun. They can be full of adventures and family time and traditions. But just by the pure nature of the season, it can be so hard to stay fit and healthy. Use these tips to protect your health and well-being so that you can enjoy the season and make it through feeling better than ever.
