Maintaining a Healthy Family
By Rachel Shouse
It can be difficult to find time to do everything on your to-do list in a day. Between kids, marriages, work, social life, etc., it's hard to get everything done. That being said, if there's a way to knock out more than one of these tasks at a time the more time you'll save. One of the most important things we do in a day is spend time with your family. Combining family time with exercising, cooking, and cleaning can really help you complete all that you need to do in a day.
Workout With Your Kids
Many parents try their best to find a way to get their workout done when the kids are otherwise occupied. While this is the best way to do it usually, it surely couldn't hurt to either include them in your workout or take them for a walk one night a week as a family. Work, school, sports, and other obligations can make getting family time pretty difficult.
If your weeks are really busy and you can't get quality time with your family remember to utilize your weekends. If you took your kids for a walk every Saturday morning, you'd be able to get intentional time with your family. Life is distracting and that can make it hard for parents to give their kids their undivided attention.
Cook Healthy Meals With Your Family
Everyone knows that kids love sweets and treats. While that's perfectly fine, it's something that doesn't happen everyday. The important thing to do is teach your children about healthy foods that will actually provide their bodies with what they need.
Plan one day per week when your family works together to make dinner. This provides you time to educate them on why you cook vegetables, why this meat is healthier than another, etc. Beyond that, it's great family time. These are the things your kids will remember when they're older.
Family Cleaning Time
Cleaning may not be your favorite part of the day, but it's an important one nonetheless. Although it's important for children to have chores that they complete independently, it's also important to work right by their side. Kids are usually assigned the easy chores. Usually because parents don't have time to pick up a mess that a toddler tried to clean up but in reality spread it even further.
While that's rather stressful, making intentional time to work with them really helps. If time is a problem, set a timer for 10-minutes and challenge them to see how much you can get done as a team. You could write a list on a piece of paper. Include your older children as well. They can run off on their own and come back to check off their tasks while you work with any younger ones you may have. There are a ton of ways to make family time truly productive.
