Fall Fitness, Explored
By Brandi Goodman
The fall season is fast approaching. Now's the time to examine your fitness routine and decide which activities to keep in your fall rotation and what new options are available. The weather may sometimes hinder you from exercising outside, yet warm days will still allow you to experience the many benefits that an outdoor exercise routine brings. A combination of indoor and outdoor workouts may be best for the remainder of the year and into the new one.
A Walk Through the Wilderness
Taking a walk is an easy, yet effective workout. Find a path through the wilderness that allows you to see firsthand the beauty of nature around you. Watch as the leaves change colors and drift to the ground as you get your legs working and your heart pumping. Rainy days may not work well, as they can cause slippery conditions, but the sunny days of fall make for the perfect atmosphere.
Bike Riding
Bike riding isn't set to summer only. You can enjoy a fall bike ride just as well -- perhaps even more. Experience the beauty of the fall foliage and ride with a cool breeze. It's often a better experience than riding on an especially hot summer day.
Join a Fitness Class
Local gyms and fitness centers often follow a particular class schedule for all of their sessions. Find one that piques your interest and join. Exercising amongst others can offer great motivation. You'll also have the teachings of the instructor to help ensure you're using proper form and following the right techniques. It can be great for making improvements and learning to handle the exercises on your own in the future.
Follow Along to a Video
In the comfort of your own home, you can work out without an audience. You don't have to feel nervous or embarrassed about how you look trying out the various moves. Simply find a workout video to follow along with and give it your best try. You don't have to get all the moves down pat. Just do your best, and step in place when you're struggling to follow the pace. Utilize the same video for several sessions until you get it down, or try something new every time. This is a great option when the weather is drab and you don't want to go out in it.
Your fall fitness routine may be somewhat similar to what you did over the summer months. However, you'll need to account for those dreary days and add in some indoor workouts to your repertoire.
