A study discovered that standing for five hours a day contributes to long-term muscle fatigue in the lower limbs. They simulated a factory environment with participants performing light tasks while standing for several hours daily. Regular stretching was found to help with the problem of fatigue experienced by those who stand. Changing the position of the body is also beneficial as it shifts how the load is borne. Frequent breaks were found to be the best method of reducing fatigue and muscle ache. For those who work in factories, setting the work station at the proper height and distance from the body, much like optimizing desk and chair position for office workers, helps to lessen fatigue as well.
