Here's How to Help Fight Against the Flu
By Virginia Laird
There is little in the way of secrets to prevent the flu. Research and doctors agree that nothing can offer a sure way to avoid it. However, utilizing healthy hygiene can help decrease the chances of suffering with the virus. Many of these habits are things you may already be doing. The list is long and lengthy. A few of the tips offered by doctors to help prevent the spread of germs, including the flu are:
- Wash your hands often
- Get plenty of rest
- Avoid getting out when sick
Wash Your Hands Often
During flu season, one of the best ways to help prevent it from taking over your home is to wash your hands often and teach the importance of this to your children. Though everyone in the home has most likely mastered washing their hands after visiting the restroom, this is not enough when the flu is running rampant. Try to include washing your hands after being out and about, before eating or drinking, and after touching any surface that others may have touched. The list of times to wash the hands can go forever. Keep it simple: wash the hands often, and if you're wondering whether you should wash, you should!
Get Plenty of Rest
Getting plenty of rest plays a key role in keeping the body healthy. The body, as well as its functions, respond more quickly to needs when it is rested. It is recommended that an adult gets at least six hours of sleep each night. Make getting enough sleep high on your priority list, especially during flu season, to help protect against illness.
Avoid Getting Out When Sick
If you are sick, it is necessary to stay away from others. Not only will you get them ill, but being around others while sick increases your chances of catching other viruses along with whatever you may already have. This is especially true during flu season. The flu alone is bad enough, but no one wants it or any other infection that may be traveling around. It is vital to rest and relax when you are sick, this allows the body the opportunity to bounce back.
Help you and your family enjoy more of the fall and winter outdoor adventures and avoid the flu season by following these tips. Hope you and your family stay happy and healthy!
