Make Golfing Part of Your Family Fitness Routine
By Brandi Goodman
Family Golf Month falls to July each year. It's the perfect time of year for the game, with the summer season providing the ideal environment to get outdoors in the sunshine. Make golfing part of your family fitness routine so you can all enjoy the many benefits.
Getting in Your Steps
The recommended number of daily steps is 10,000. Get out on a golf course and you'll be racking up a ton of steps in the process. From the time you step out of your car and walk up to the golfing facility, you'll already add a few on your step tracker. Make your way through the entire course and you'll get pretty close to meeting your daily goal. Walking is ideal for maintaining or losing weight, improving your lower body strength, and keeping your back and core tight.
Burning Calories
All of the steps you take on the golf course will undoubtedly burn calories. Add in the frequent golf swings, bending to pick up your ball, and carrying around your club and any equipment, and you'll be burning even more. It's a great exercise option.
Boosting Your Heart Health
A healthy heart is necessary for good health overall. It's also needed if you hope to maintain good fitness. All of the movement during a golf game can help to boost your heart health. You'll be increasing your heart rate and blood flow, which helps to strengthen your heart.
Reducing Stress Levels
Golf is more than a physical opportunity. You can use it to your mind's advantage as well. Enjoy a game of golf outside with your family and you'll be reducing your stress levels and improving your mental well-being in the process. Exercise in itself is ideal for releasing endorphins and helping to improve mood. Start playing regular games of gold with your family or friends and you'll really see these benefits take shape.
A game of golf is all your family needs to work on getting fit and enjoying a bonding experience. Play a real round on a golf course or just enjoy the mini-golf version at a family fun facility and gain the many physical benefits that the game brings. Don't just do it once during Family Golf Month. Make the activity a regular family fun tradition to continue the fun and the fitness all year-round.
