Stop Impulse Buying at the Store!

Everyone has been there: You go into the grocery store with only the best intentions and leave with roughly 247 things you absolutely do not need. Don't be ashamed! The grocery store is meant to be appealing. No matter the reason for your impulse buys at the store, you can stop letting it happen to you, especially if you want to focus on healthy eating. Here are a few strategies you can use to outsmart the store and leave with only the items on your list.

Don't Shop Hungry

The cardinal rule of grocery shopping is never to do it hungry. Of course, this is a rule that everyone knows somewhere deep down inside but still do it. The truth is that if you want to guarantee that you don't stick to your list and you buy the stuff you absolutely don't need, then you should shop hungry. But if you do want to have the willpower to pass those cookies on sale by, then at least have a snack before you grab a cart. That lowers your chances of buying unhealthy foods and sticking to the healthy choices you have on your list.

Plan It Out

One of the best ways to ensure you don't buy unhealthy items you don't really need is to plan your meals in advance. Think about what you're going to eat this week and it'll help you to stick to a healthier diet. It also can help you waste less food and money!

Make a List

As you make a meal plan for the week make a list. When you enter the store, challenge yourself to stick to only the things on your list. It's not an easy feat but it will save you money, time, and a few calories along the way.

Put Some Indulgences on the List

No man (or woman) is an island. You cannot live life without indulging every once in a while, so make sure to include a few indulgences on your list. As long as you eat the things you want in moderation, they can absolutely be a part of a healthy diet. Remember, having a healthy relationship with food isn't about depriving yourself, no food should be forbidden.

You can shop successfully without being lured to the dark side. Just know the trouble areas and weak spots and have a plan to address them!
