Maintaining an Exercise Routine on Break
By Brandi Goodman
It can be hard to find the motivation when you have a break period. Whether you're home for a short Thanksgiving break, get a longer time off for Christmas, spring break or even summer, you should still be doing what you can to maintain an exercise routine. Find the motivation wherever you can and fit physical activity into each day.
Write It on the Calendar
Sometimes writing our goals down can help us maintain them. Write down your need for exercise on the calendar each day -- or at least several days -- of your break. You'll see it there and get a reminder that you need to find time for exercise anyway you can.
Dance Every Day
Dancing is great exercise. If you're on a hiatus from work or school and just want to sit at home, then at least fit some time in for dance every day. Turn up the most joyful songs on your playlist and bust a move. You'll get your heart beating good and work up a sweat quickly if you go all in.
Use Music With Chores
Household chores are just as good exercise as any. Turn up some music while you complete them and see how fast you can go. Music really gets people into the mood for movement, so including it during your cleaning time can have you getting your house and yourself in great shape.
Workout With a Friend or Family Member
Exercise doesn't have to be done alone. Workout with a friend or family member so each of you can get in some physical activity time. It can make the workout more fun and the two of you can keep each other motivated to keep going and put in your best effort.
Follow a Fitness Video
Fitness videos galore are available online. Set up whichever version you choose on your TV and get moving. It's nice to follow a fitness video with an instructor because you're guided on how each exercise should be done properly to keep yourself safe. There's plenty of free versions available or paid versions you can subscribe to if you want a more in-depth plan to follow.
Exercise should always be included in your daily life, whether you're on break from the rest of the world or not. Physical activity is necessary for maintaining your overall well-being, so do what you can to maintain an exercise routine can burn those calories from whatever type of movement keeps you motivated.
