It's hard to be healthy when your home doesn't provide the right environment. You need to start by getting your house into the best shape possible so you have a better chance to keep your mind and body healthy as well. These five tips for keeping your home healthy should help.
Keep Things Clean
Dust and debris can wreak havoc on your health. You may start to notice trouble breathing, itchy or watery eyes, sneezing, and worse if you have dust built up anywhere in your house. It's important to keep things clean so you can breathe easily. Vacuum at least two times per week, emptying out the compartment and filter. Use a duster to take care of hard-to-reach places.
Stay Organized
Chaos and clutter can be detrimental to your health as well. You may experience severe stress when you constantly see piles of clothes, stacked boxes, and disarray throughout the house. It's helpful to stay organized and keep clutter clear so your mind will remain uncluttered as well.
Get Vents and Ducts Checked
Just as your furniture and carpet can collect dust, so can your vents and ductwork. You really need to be performing regular maintenance to these systems so you can clear the dust and debris and avoid breathing in anything harmful. A professional may need to be called in if this hasn't been checked in some time.
Stop Smoking
Smoking doesn't just affect your health. It also affects the health of those around you due to secondhand smoke inhalation. It can impact the lungs of anyone in the home. The toxins released can even do damage to your home. You'll notice yellowed walls, stained furniture, and a smell that is not easy to get out.
Use a Filter on Your Sink
Tap water isn't always the safest to drink. It may be wise to use a filter on your sink so you can significantly reduce the amount of chemicals coming through your faucet and into your glass. Chlorine, lead, and pesticides are just a few things that may come through if you choose not to filter.
