What We Can All Learn from Type B people
By Sandy Schroeder
The hard-driving Type A personality gets a lot of attention in our society, but what about those Type B people? They may have a few things to teach us, too.
Dr. Travis Bradberry, co-founder of TalentSmart, an agency that serves 75 percent of the Fortune 500 companies, took a look at what Type B people do, and why it works so well for them.
Sometimes Type Bs are dismissed as lazy or not very effective, but Bradberry explains how Type Bs really work. Bradberry says Type Bs don’t rush, push, or jump to conclusions. They know they are not perfect and they are open to the world around them. They are always ready to play the game, but they don’t have to win every round.
Here’s how that plays out.
Life is a journey not a sprint - Type Bs make less noise and create fewer waves, but they have goals and they just keep moving to make them happen. In the end this may turn out to be the best way to do business.
Type Bs care just as much - Taking the time to do the job right can be misinterpreted as not caring. Actually doing the job thoroughly the first time may be a sign of serious dedication. When the Type As have all gone home, the Type Bs will still be working to create the best efforts.
Life is easier minus the stress - Type Bs often enjoy a greater satisfaction with life, because they don’t put as much pressure on everything. Goals happen, projects are completed, and life goes on with a lot less drama.
Health is easier to achieve - Type Bs generate less stress, which helps to lower their risk of heart disease, substance abuse and sleeplessness. An ongoing relaxed attitude helps the body maintain normal weight, avoid serious diseases, and create a stronger immune system.
Friends just multiply - When everything does not turn into a competition, it’s much easier to make friends and keep them. Type Bs share their friends’ successes and help to cheer them on.
Group projects are irresistible - Type B people are right at home in free-flowing projects where everybody dives right in and shares the power and the glory. They have faith in their co-workers and enjoy the interactions.
They are friendly but never envious -Type Bs usually have a clear idea of who they are. They are friendly with everyone, but perfectly happy to be who they are. That’s how they do so much with so little effort.
