Is Energy Leaking Out of Your Body?
By Donna Stark
I think it is fair to say that the majority of us have had to deal with an air leak at some point or another in our lifetimes. And if we wanted to maintain the integrity of whatever it was that was losing the air (a tire or ball, for example), we would take the time to fix the leak. Well, don't you think we should treat our bodies the same way we treat those tires and balls? There are plenty of bad habits we practice on a daily basis that leak all of our stored energy and good health, and it's about time we patch them up. Here are a few suggestions on where to begin.
Exercise
If you are feeling completely exhausted or overly sore after working out, you may not be exercising in the most productive way possible. Your workouts should be energizing and if they are not, you are either pushing yourself past your limits, improperly conditioned, or using poor technique. By listening to your body and focusing on proper posture, technique, and function, you can easily increase your efficiency which will restore all of the energy you were wasting.
Hydration
How many hours have you wasted feeling lethargic or struggling to focus and concentrate so far today? For a quick energy boost and the perfect pick-me-up, make sure you are staying hydrated! Drinking the recommended amount of water every day will make a huge difference in how you feel and think!
Sleep
Wonder where you get the bulk of your energy from? Sleep is all about cell repair and regeneration. It's the time your body uses to recover from the day and recharge for the next. You have to prioritize it if you are looking to patch up some of your energy leaks. Here are some suggestions on how to get quality sleep.
- Maintain a consistent sleep schedule
- Power down electronics at least an hour before bed
- Design a bedroom conducive to sleep (blackout curtains, noise machines, quality mattress)
- Stretch or take a hot bath before bedtime
Stress
Stress, anxiety, and worry. Oh, the energy we give to the three of them, right? When you are paralyzed with worry or overcome with stress, your body requires a lot more from you just to be able to function. In addition to that, stress and anxiety can easily rob you of your rest and will often lead to significant health issues. It is vital that you learn how to manage your stress and anxiety effectively so that it does not rob you of everything you hold dear.
Energizing Your Life
Your energy is always there and good health is always on the horizon. You just have to stop the leaks. Follow the suggestions above and fill yourself back up, just like you filled those tires with air!
