Adding More Herbs to Your Diet Could Reduce Stress
By Stephen R. Farris
Has the winter weather made you feel more stressed out. If you're in parts of the country experiencing heavy storms of ice and snow, it probably has. Having to get up and face the elements, driving to work usually takes a while longer, then getting back home after the daily grind on the job is just as bad -- if not sometimes worse.
It's enough to make you want to pull your hair out. Oftentimes we might find artificial ways to deal with stressful situations, and they're not always the best for us. We might tend to drink a little more than normal, or to get rest, we might indulge more toward over-the-counter medication to make us sleep.
Productive measures in dealing with stress could be turning off the electronics, meditating, exercise, or reading a good book.
However, the stress you're feeling all the time could simply be a change in your diet, particularly the vitamins and herbs we intake into our bodies.
Here's a few herbs you might consider including in your daily diet.
Rhodiola Rosea
It's an herb from the Russia/Asian region. Known as an adaptogen, rhodiola rosea helps stimulate your body's stress response system to make it more resistant to stressful situations, or stress in general.
Melatonin
Melatonin is widely known as a sleep aid. If you're stressed out most of the time, chances are you're not getting the required amount of sleep you need each night. Melatonin is a natural hormone designed to regulate the body's circadian rhythm so you can actually rest more fully and peaceful.
Glycine
An amino acid that produces protein in your body. It is also associated with aiding better sleep.
Ashwagandha
It's an adaptogen herb from India. It, too, is similar to rhodiola rosea to help make your body more resilient to stress.
These are a few herbs you can add to your diet to help reduce stress in your life.
