Can Clothes Affect Health?

By Tom Herrin

There are plenty of questions that have to do with health.  They usually have to do with whether or not a particular exercise program works as well as advertised or whether it can actually work certain parts of the body.  In more recent years, the kinds of clothing worn for a workout have been a little more of a popular topic. At one time, sweats or loose-fitting clothing were pretty common with little connection to real performance.  Much of that has changed today. People can be seen almost everywhere wearing some of the apparel that is thought to be designed for the gym or some other exercise facility. Compression wear may be some people’s choice of activewear.

Compression Tops

While they may not seem to be as widely used as some other pieces of clothing, compression tops or shirts can serve some purposes.  They may be able to reduce swelling after a workout. They may also complement a figure that has made good progress. For those newly improved muscles and that trimmer waist, a good compression top may provide a look that can help someone to feel as if their work has paid off.

Compression Shorts

Seeing people wearing compression shorts or pants is a sight that may be observed in all kinds of everyday activities.  It looks as if they are the choice of many for casual shopping or running the kids around to school or other activities.  As for performance, they may actually provide some support, particularly for minor injuries. They are quite popular for riding bicycles as they seem to maintain good enough support to prevent soreness caused by sitting on those smaller bicycle seats.  They also seem to have the ability to prevent fatigue.

Compression Socks

People have been wearing compression socks for many years.  They are often used in hospitals or medical facilities on people who have had surgery or some other procedure.  They are effective for helping to prevent blood from pooling in the extremities by keeping pressure applied to the blood vessels.  This makes it easier for the circulation and much less likely for dangerous blood clots to form. Some people have used them for other issues they may have involving problem veins.  The socks or stockings are probably the granddaddy of compression wear with a high degree of success. While all of the other kinds may not have a long proven record, if they make you more comfortable, they are worth trying.
