A Pear Is a Great Food for Health

When people think about a basket of fruit, they are most likely to think of apples, oranges, and bananas. A broader perspective could include countless others. Not the least of these is pears. They may be considered a simple fruit. They are pretty inexpensive and grown in plenty of places. All too often, they are discarded in many places or simply ignored. It is true that they need to be harvested pretty fast so that they do not ruin, but there are lots of ways people can process them. One of the oldest ways is to preserve or can them. This way, they may be saved for a later date and eaten with meals as desired. Either way, they are a healthy food.
They Help Build Strong Bones
Pears contain plenty of nutrients, many of which are not often found in other fruits. Some of them are magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, calcium, and copper. These can help to prevent mineral loss in bones. It can possibly prevent serious issues such as osteoporosis. This has become a major problem for many Americans today. Eating pears on a regular basis may be a simple way to help avoid these problems.
They May Help Fight Some Diseases
Pears still hold their own when it comes to antioxidants. They are high in Vitamins A and C. They have flavonoid compounds such as beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin. All of these can make a good contribution to boosting the body's defenses. They are particularly known for their effectiveness against some cancers. Lung cancer is one in particular that has been shown in studies to be curbed by antioxidants.
They Are a Good, Mild Fruit
Most of us will remember that pears are one of the fruits that has a less obvious taste. That is, their taste is not overtly strong. They are sweet yet not overwhelmingly so. This may be why they are so low in calories. They may be one of softest fruits too. You can dent a ripe one with your finger. You have probably had a drink with pear nectar at some time. I know it is one my favorites for that. If you are trying to fine tune your diet, try a few pairs. You may find the way to eat them that fits you just right.
