Broaden Your List of Veggies to Include Leafy Greens

By Tom Herrin

Sometimes it is good to take inventory of what all is included in a diet for anyone.  Balance is important in meals.  It is not always that some things are so bad as much as it is that some things simply need to be included more often.  At times, just a change can revitalize meals and health.  One of the things that may be added to improve health is leafy greens.  They can pack some pretty good nutrients and do several things for health.  Particularly if someone is limiting their intake of meat, leafy greens may offer a good alternative for some of the nutrients they may be giving up.

They May Help With Cholesterol Levels

One common problem for so many people today involves cholesterol.  It seems that many have issues with it.  One of the major causes may be eating habits.  So many people rely on fast foods to make their schedules work that they likely take in lots of bad fats.  This will often raise LDL levels.  Eating more leafy greens can help to provide some nutrients that can help remove many of those substances that may block blood vessels and help them to stay clear.

They May Help Treat Anemia

Anemia is a problem that many people deal with.  Some of it is caused by things related to growth, development, and maturity.  There are a variety of other causes as well.  Leafy greens can help to supply iron without the risks associated with eating a lot of meat.  Since many people seem to have trouble with taking iron supplements and don't tolerate them well, leafy greens may be a good option to consider.

They May Help Improve Energy Levels

We all have times in which we find that our energy levels drop.  The iron in leafy greens may take care of this as it can help to increase the available oxygen.  Since they are light, I always enjoy having them in a meal.  They can make me feel satisfied without being too heavy and overloaded.  I feel that I can easily get out and do whatever I want right after eating.  They are favorites on my list, and they are not expensive.  If you are searching for something to add to your diet, give leafy greens a try, and see what they may be able to do for you.
