Are You Out of Ideas for Healthy Drinks?
By Tom Herrin
There are times when any of us seem to just run out of ideas. It isn't that we are not trying, but we may try so hard that we simply burn out. This may happen with our search for beverages. While most of us know that we need to drink more water, we may hit a brick wall for new things to try. When we feel as if we have tried them all, we may see the light in a different way. There are actually all kinds of drinks available that many of us may have never considered. It can be surprising when we realize what all is available.
Have You Had Pomegranate?
Pomegranate is one of those fruits that you may have never even thought of as a drink. Many of us probably had them right off of the tree as kids but never gave much thought about trying them as a beverage. They really have a lot to offer. Several studies have found some surprising benefits. One found that they may help to improve memory. Another found that they may help reduce one loss. They are believed to help lower cholesterol as well as help to maintain healthy blood pressure. Like so many other foods that are rich in fiber, they may help to curb our appetite and keep us feeling full longer.
Do Your Enjoy Lemon
Lemon is a fruit that is often underestimated and underappreciated. For many years, you may have been served water at a restaurant with a slice of lemon on the edge of the glass. Squeezing it and dropping it in the glass can be good. Not only does lemon do a good job of quenching thirst, but it also has Vitamin C and many have success using it as a natural diuretic. Even if you add sugar and make lemonade, it can be a simple beverage with some good things to offer.
Add Your Own Flavors to Water
It doesn't require anything special to create your own drink. You can do it at home, or many restaurants offer lots of varieties of flavors that can be added to water. My wife likes to add pineapple to hers. One of my kids enjoys adding blackberry to hers. My personal favorite is to add lime and strawberry to water. It tastes like a very light strawberry-limeade with very few calories.
