Dr. Mikhail Atkins became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s team of local healthcare providers in 2025 when he began serving residents in the Stockbridge area, where he continues doing the work he finds so gratifying.
“The best thing about being in the chiropractic field is being able to have an immediate impact on someone’s health, their mood, and a patient’s overall ability to live a high-quality life,” he says. “It’s a great feeling to know so many people in the world appreciate what you do and want you to keep doing it and become even better at it.”
Dr. Atkins previously worked in New York City and Buffalo, N.Y. and Kumasi in Ghana.
“I am Jamaican and Chinese by blood, born and raised in Brooklyn, but bred in Western New York,” he says. “All of these areas and cultures shaped me to be comfortable with myself while uplifting and being more considerate to others. For me, growing up was about unconditional love and unconditional respect. Everyone deserves those two things, no matter what the circumstances are.”
Dr. Atkins’ favorite hobbies include exercising, being a foodie, winning a chess match, spending time in nature, traveling, learning about anything and everything, and playing sports – mostly basketball.
He attended State University of New York at Fredonia where he studied psychology and exercise science. He earned a Doctorate of Chiropractic at D’Youville University in Buffalo, N.Y.
“As a college athlete, one of my doctors was a chiropractor, Dr. William Brierley,” he says. “He guided me as a young, curious mind in his office from 2012 to the present. He has allowed me to shadow, intern, and learn as much as I could from him and the other doctors in the office. He got my feet wet, being hands-on as well as paying close attention to the historical context of chiropractic and all the research that comes with that. I definitely carry all of those experiences and memories to this day with every patient I treat.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Atkins always keeps water stocked in his refrigerator. “Water is the key to life,” he says. “Its use supersedes thirst. It’s a great teacher of life that a living, energetic being has many phases and purposes to its existence over time, but it still doesn’t minimize their impact and change who they are.”
If he could plan the ideal dinner party including four famous people, Dr. Atkins would invite: Mike Tyson, Donald Trump, Jesus Christ, and Marvel character Thanos. “All of these individuals believed they were doing something for the betterment of mankind,” he says. “Except Mike Tyson. Mike Tyson just doesn’t give a crap; he’s living life in the moment unconditionally and unrestrained.”
One of the most amazing experiences of Dr. Atkins’ life was working in Ghana. “Most of my heritage is tied to Jamaica, which has direct connections to Ghana and its original inhabitants,” he says. “I felt at home in Ghana. It was an experience that grounded me and gave me great confidence as I lived among the native Africans. It was the confirmation and visualization I needed to step up in my life journey.”
Two books have been significant to Dr. Atkins. “The Bible for me is a lifelong guideline that transcends the continuum of time, space, and matter,” he says. “The Alchemist is a book that transforms complex concepts of human understanding into simple principles that actually follow biblical laws.”
If Dr. Atkins penned an autobiography, it would be titled Mark of the Peace. “At the end of the day, love trumps all,” he says. “We all go through things that can make or break us. Though It doesn’t always feel that way in the moment, we have to keep in mind that peace and love is worth all of the suffering and pain we go through.” If asked to give advice, Dr. Atkins would say, “If you were told by God that your current human experience will end at midnight tonight, never to return again, what’s your next move? Just do it, like Nike.”
