Take Your Workout Outside: 4 Tips to Make It Great
By Virginia Laird
With fall in view, it is a nice time of year to begin to consider taking your workout outdoors. While the thought of this can be exciting, there are a few things fitness gurus suggest you should think about before you do. A few of these tips include:
- Bring plenty of water
- Dress appropriately
- Consider your terrain
- Bring a friend
Bring Plenty of Water
When you are working outside, it is necessary to bring plenty of water, as there may not be a place to fill up a bottle. Fitness experts suggest that most do not drink enough water while exercising. It is imperative that you stay hydrated while getting fit. During times when it is hot, your body may feel more thirsty and in need of water than others. However, you need to drink plenty of water no matter the temperature outdoors or your thirst.
Dress Appropriately
As always, it is necessary to dress appropriately when you are working out. Personal trainers explain that exercising outside can require a different variety of clothing. When it is extremely hot and humid, wearing clothing that allows the skin to breathe is vital. Always make sure you wear clothes that allow you to move easily and sweat freely. Research suggests that dry fit shirts and pants (or shorts) are best.
Consider Your Terrain
While working out indoors may provide a flat surface, outside is not quite the same. Therefore, it is necessary for you to consider the terrain while you are outdoors. Carelessly exercising without a thought to the ground can invite injury. It is best to find flat, grassy areas to get your workout on while outside. If you are one who prefers hills, it is best to inspect for holes, etc., prior to beginning your routine.
Bring a Friend
Fitness experts advise that exercising with a buddy can help make it more fun as well as more productive. With a friend in tow, you may push one another to complete the exercise. Another benefit of bringing a friend, is that a friend may not allow you to skip out. If you are one who is looking to improve your health and wellness, make sure you find a workout buddy who will encourage you to do your best work and call you out for sloughing it when needed.
Now is the time to find your favorite outdoor locations to get some exercise in. Have fun and enjoy this weather!
