Have a Healthy Date Night at Home
By Rachel Shouse
While some areas are starting to open up, most places have limited capacity. There are still some ways to enjoy date nights, even when you can't do what you normally would. Cooking a healthy meal together, planning an outdoor date, and learning how to dance together are three great ways to have a healthy night at home.
Cook a Healthy Meal Together
There are so many great recipes that you and your spouse can explore together. You can even input what ingredients you have into a search engine and you'll find recipes that fit with what you have on hand.
If you're looking for a new idea and need some creative help, allrecipes.com has a fun meal spinner. You spin the different categories, protein, vegetable, etc., and it will present you with recipes that fit into those criteria. You can also select categories yourself as well. The spinner just adds a little more fun to it.
After you decide on what you want to make, create the grocery list together. Planning the meal together can be another part of your date. Some ingredients may need to be purchased ahead of time. If you need something that you can cook right away, be sure to check the amount of time a recipe takes before you commit to it.
Get Some Fresh Air
I love going for walks with my husband. We're fortunate to live in an area that has multiple nature walks/trails available. We spent quite a bit of time on them during the pandemic. You may be surprised how romantic a walk can be. We were able to see a beautiful clear blue sky over a lovely meadow. That may sound corny, but I've never seen anything like it. It was amazing to say the least. You and your spouse could probably benefit from a little adventure.
Learn How to Dance via the Internet
You're probably well aware of the multitude of videos available online. YouTube allows you to watch them for free as well. A lot of creators have posted dancing tutorials that you and your spouse can do in your own living room. A lot of TV's have apps now, which enables you to watch the tutorial on a much bigger screen.
Get creative with your date nights. Try to think outside the box. Worst case scenario, never underestimate the power of a good Google search. There's even an Adventure Challenge book available. It breaks down different date night ideas based on time, if a babysitter is required, if it's indoor or out, and more. It also gives you spaces for a photo of each date. The date itself is a secret until you scratch it off. It's a great book/keepsake.
